  5. sex-change operation; of cancer; in San Clemente, Calif. Born
  6. George Jorgensen in New York City in 1926, he became tormented
  7. by the feeling that he was a woman trapped in the body of a man.
  8. In 1952 the ex-G.I. went to Denmark for a series of operations
  9. that American physicians denounced as "mutilative surgery." With
  10. time, however, Jorgensen's international notoriety brought
  11. handsome sums on the lecture and nightclub circuits.
